PLANS have been put forward to construct a yoga centre of excellence in Newquay overlooking Fistral Beach.

Tom and Jen Harvey, the proprietors of Ocean Flow Yoga, has submitted a change of use and extensions at ground floor and part of first floor at 18, Pentire Avenue to create yoga studios.

The scheme also includes a vertical extension, to form a residential dwelling including balconies to north at first floor level and to north and south at loft level.

The design statement said: “The clients are residents of Pentire and have been running Ocean Flow Yoga for 13 years and in that time have picked up several awards including best yoga studio in the UK.

“The clients purchased 18, Pentire Avenue in November 2015 with a view to converting the building into a residence for themselves combined with yoga teaching facilities.

“There is currently an extant planning permission to replace 18, Pentire Avenue with a yoga studio, holiday lets and home for the owners.

“The applicants have revisited the whole scheme and a resubmitting a new high-quality design, which reflects their evolved requirements for reduced accommodation.

“They wish to convert the existing building into a dwelling and construct a new yoga studio as a wide and rear extension.

“The yoga studio development proposes two studios and reception area. The main Vinyasa studio should achieve views across Fistral beach to the north.

“The space will be a centre of excellence promoting physical and mental health.

“It plays an active role with easing the burden of the NHS and local doctors’ surgeries.

“It will tackle the prevalent issues in today’s world of stress, anxiety and depression that is rife in our modern world.

“The centre of excellence in the yoga world will put Newquay on the map in the larger national and international yoga communities.”
