Newquay Rocks Family Activity Centre is due to be unveiled at Hendra Holiday Park during spring 2026.

The new year-round and wet-weather activity centre will include a family climbing facility, soft play area, gym and community event space.

The holiday park is embarking on the strategic development to extend its trading season, diversify income, create high-quality jobs, and “deliver lasting community benefits.”

The facility, which will be open to the public as well as people staying at Hendra, will also be used as a new community space for Scouts Cornwall.

The project has been part-funded by the government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Will Dexter, the group finance director at Hendra Holiday Park, said: “The project is set to create new full-time jobs, upskill staff, and boost the local economy by up to £5 million annually.

“By extending the trading season, it will address employment and visitor fluctuations while maintaining a sustainable approach.

“Designed with low-carbon principles, the development aligns with environmental priorities and supports responsible long-term growth for both the business and the community.

“Crucially, the project helps reduce seasonal dependency and pressure on summer tourism without increasing peak visitor numbers.

“It offers attractive off- peak activities and provides the local community with year-round access to affordable, safe leisure options.

“Facilities will support youth groups including a new Scout group and host family-friendly activities in a multi-use venue.”

The Newquay Rocks Family Activity Centre will be supported by essential infrastructure upgrades including improved parking, lighting, security, weather resilience, and energy efficiency, enabling core facilities including the Oasis Fun Pool to operate beyond the current seasonal window.

The centre will be powered by Hendra Holiday Park’s existing 1.5MW solar farm and 400kW biomass system.

James McIntyre, lead volunteer of Scouts Cornwall, said: “Scouts Cornwall are so happy be working with Hendra Holiday Park with this new, exciting development. We are hopeful that with the creation of this new space, and recruitment of new adult volunteers, we will be able to start a 3rd Scout Group in the wider Newquay area, when the building project is complete in spring 2026.

“We would like to thank Hendra Holiday Park for their ongoing community support and giving us this potential opportunity.”

Cornwall Council is responsible for managing projects funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund through the Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Good Growth Programme.

A spokesperson said: “The development reflects the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Good Growth Investment Plan’s vision for sustainable, inclusive tourism.

“This initiative offers a high-value, low-impact solution to regional seasonality, delivering economic resilience, social benefit, and environmental responsibility.”

Hendra Holiday Park has committed to deliver a biodiversity net gain with the project, to include new landscaped features and habitat areas.

The long-established family business is committed to achieve net zero by 2050. The new activity centre facility will be included within its business carbon reduction plan.
