EMERGENCY services were scrambled after a person was cut off by the tide In Newquay on New Year’s Eve.
The police, Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team along with both Newquay RNLI lifeboats attended the incident shortly after 1pm.
Lifeboat crew located the casualty and helped them ashore to the safety of the Coastguard team.
A spokesperson for Newquay Lifeboat Station said: “Volunteers from Newquay RNLI lifeboats were paged following reports of an individual being cut off at Towan Beach. “Both of the charity's lifeboats were launched and tasked to the area to assess the situation and provide assistance.
“After locating the casualty and assisting them ashore, they were left in the safety of Newquay coastguard search & rescue team. Both lifeboats were stood down and returned to Newquay Lifeboat Station.
“RNLI Newquay volunteers are on call 24/7 and would like to remind members of the public to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard if they see anyone in difficulty along the coast. As we begin the New Year, all at Newquay RNLI wish everyone a safe and happy year ahead.”
A spokesperson for Newquay Coastguard added: “Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team and Newquay RNLI Lifeboats were tasked to assist Devon and Cornwall Police with a casualty near Towan Beach. Lifeboat crew picked up the casualty and dropped them off safely in Towan Beach for assessment and onward travel.”
