NATURE enthusiasts responded to the call to attend a birdwatching trip in Newquay.

Rob Nicholls was the field trip leader for a RSPB Kernow Local Group Connect with Nature event held at Towan Headland.

They spotted 16 different bird species, which included more than 10 Purple Sandpiper, 20 plus Oystercatcher, 40 plus Turnstone, 40 plus Starling and three Linnet.

The group also saw a Stonechat, three Rock Pipit, five Meadow Pipit, three Carrion Crow, five Jackdaw, two Rook, three Magpie, a Gannet, three Great Black-backed Gull, 21 Herring Gull and four Cormorant.

Three species of butterflies were spotted, which included three Red Admiral, two Large White, and one Small White.

Rowena Castillo-Nicholls, RSPB Kernow local group leader and publicity officer for Cornwall Bird Watching and Preservation Society organised the event.
