FESTIVE residents came together to attend the annual Newquay Christmas community lunch.
One hundred and 28 people enjoyed a turkey dinner with all the trimmings at the Sandy Lodge Hotel in Hilgrove Road, which was organised by Newquay Towan Blystra Lions.
A dedicated team of Lions volunteers supported by friends and family worked tirelessly throughout the afternoon, serving tables and clearing up to help keep costs to a minimum.
Guests were greeted with a pre-dinner drink of sherry or orange juice.
Entertainment was provided by singer Paula Marcellis, which was followed by a lively game of bingo, enthusiastically led by hotel owner Peter Butterly, who entertained the room as both caller and comedian to great applause.
A raffle helped raise funds for future lunches and other community good causes.
Lion Colin Wellington said: “The attendees enjoyed a delicious roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The pre-dinner drink helped set a warm and festive tone for the event.
“Paula Marcellis’ wonderful singing was thoroughly enjoyed by all. A fantastic time was had by everyone.
“Special thanks go to B for her tremendous effort selling raffle tickets, supported by Donna.
“The Lions extend their sincere thanks to Peter Butterly and his excellent team at the Sandy Lodge Hotel for once again providing a warm welcome and a delicious turkey lunch.
“Additional thanks go to the many generous supporters who contributed to the event, which include Morrisons supermarket for donating the mince pies. St Columb Financial Services for donating the cream. Coodes Solicitors for donating the sherry.
“Gentle Dental, along with Lions’ family and friends, for donating the wine. Henwood Funeral Directors for providing the crackers. All family and friends who kindly donated raffle prizes. Their support, and the community’s support, helped make this year’s lunch a truly memorable event.”
