A major search operation is being carried out in Newquay following concerns for the welfare of a missing person.

Newquay, St Agnes and Falmouth Search and Rescue Teams assisted the police with the search in the Pentire area for Tara Norveil on Saturday.

The police helicopter was also brought in.

Tara was last seen in the Newquay area on March 14.  

Coastguard teams have been involved in the search ( )

A spokesperson for Pentire Residents Association said: “The police helicopter hovering over the Gannel. 

“The police have been knocking on doors in Pentire asking for CCTV footage. 

“There have been officers on the headland with police dogs.”

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of 52-year-old Tara Norveil who had been reported missing from Newquay.

“Tara was last seen leaving her address in Newquay and walking in the area of Pentire Avenue/Esplanade Road on Thursday 14 March.

“She was last seen wearing a purple hat which has since been found.

“Since Tara was reported missing, police officers have carried out extensive enquiries including house to house, witness appeals, aerial searches, searches on foot and CCTV enquiries.”
