SIX Liskeard roads are set for a major gas pipe overhaul as almost £1.7-million is invested in upgrading the town’s network over the next two years.

More than 5.5 kilometres of gas pipes are due to be replaced across Liskeard in a major programme starting this month.

The work will begin in Dennis Road on September 21, before moving into other parts of the town.

The areas earmarked for work are Dennis Road, Dungarth Green, Station Road, Caradon Heights, Valley View and Old Road.

Wales & West Utilities says the investment will help ensure homes and businesses across Liskeard continue to have a safe and reliable gas supply for decades to come.

The scale of the work means traffic management measures will be needed, with the company working with Cornwall Council to plan the programme and limit disruption.

Abby Smith, who is managing the programme, said the company understood that work on the town’s roads could cause inconvenience.

“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and businesses can rely on every day,” she said.

She added that the company would keep residents updated as the work progresses and urged motorists to follow temporary traffic management signs.

The warning will be particularly relevant as work moves through the six locations, with drivers potentially facing temporary restrictions and changes to traffic flows.

Ms Smith said the work was about ensuring the infrastructure beneath Liskeard’s streets remained “safe, reliable and fit for the future”.

Wales & West Utilities operates more than 35,000 kilometres of underground gas pipes, supplying more than 7.5-million people across Wales and the south-west of England.
