LOCAL organisations in Newquay could receive a boost from the town council.
Mayor Drew Creek has proposed Newquay Town Council reinstates the councillor’s community chest for small local organisations looking for small grants of up to £250 a year.
Newquay Town Council discussed the proposal at its governance and resources committee meeting held on Monday, September 29.
Cllr Creek said: “I proposed during a discussion around budgets that the community chest is reinstated as we had before when the tories cut them. Also at the time Cornwall Council reduced its individual councillor’s community chest from £3,000 to £1,400, a 60 per cent cut by the Tory administration last year.
“This will be fed into the town council budget setting, which will take place over next couple of months.”
