CORNWALL Council has announced a consultation into plans for new bus stops on Infirmary Hill in Truro.
Under the proposals, inbound and outbound bus stops would be positioned next to the Three Spires medical practice entrance to Truro Health Park.
Buses currently stop at the main entrance to the health park, which is also shared by Lander Medical Practice, and use the turning area immediately outside the building. However, the proposal cites “frequent instances of inconsiderate and obstructive parking in this area are preventing buses from manoeuvring safely and efficiently”, leading to daily service delays.
On Cornwall Council’s Let’s Talk website, a council spokesperson says: “The council’s Transport Coordination Service are aware of the ongoing disruption to Truro City Bus Services over the last 12 months.
“This change is intended to improve the reliability and punctuality of bus services, which currently experience delays of up to 30 minutes in some cases. It will also ensure continued access to essential health services for those who rely on public transport and will provide a safer and more consistent stopping arrangement for buses operating in the area.”
Members of the public are invited to share their views and make suggestions regarding this proposal via letstalk.cornwall.gov.uk/, for consideration before a final decision is made. The consultation will close at midnight on July 9, with work estimated for the end of summer 2026 if the outcome is successful consultation.
Truro Health Park was recently earmarked for an upgrade to Neighbourhood Health Centre status by the Department of Health and Social Care. A spokesperson said on-site parking would be among the issues to be tackled using the proposed investment. Provision is currently limited, and those who drive to the health centre must factor in a lengthy wait for someone to leave before they can park their vehicle.
