A GROUP needs a hand to bring its Newquay community garden redevelopment scheme to fruition.
The Crantock Street Community Garden committee is seeking funding for heras fencing wraps and printing, plants, a mural and a memory wall.
The much-needed makeover, which is earmarked to start in May, involves creating accessible pathways and surfaces, safe and attractive planting areas, structured growing spaces, seating and social areas, outdoor learning and activity space, biodiversity-rich landscaping and durable infrastructure to support long-term community use.
The scheme has been designed by award winning landscape gardener Kim Parish from Landscapes of Distinction.
The contractor for the project is Mark Shipley Landscapes and planning support has been provided by Laurence Associates.
Committee chairman Anna Jay said: “This redevelopment project represents the next stage in the garden’s journey. A complete re- imagining of the site to create a high-quality, sustainable, and accessible community space designed for long-term use.
“With significant funding already secured and professional partners in place, we are now moving toward planning permission and final fundraising to deliver the full vision.
““We are delighted to have secured significant funding from a number of sources, including the Community Infrastructure Levy, Newquay Town Council and the Community Capacity Fund. This means we now have almost everything we need to deliver the project.
“However, Cornwall Council, who own the site, has stipulated that we must first secure a lease on the land, which is currently underway and obtain planning permission. This is also underway but proving time-consuming and costly.
“We are incredibly grateful to have secured pro-bono support from a planning consultancy, who are leading on the planning side. There are still costs associated with the application itself and the production of additional, very detailed drawings.
“Our current timeline would see us starting work mid-May, but this is entirely dependent on planning permission being granted.”
