PLANS to reignite Newquay’s famous New Year’s Eve celebrations are well underway.

Newquay BID held a meeting with businesses in the town to formulate ideas, which was held at CSpace in The Crescent on Tuesday, March 10.

Ideas mooted include an early fireworks display and family fun events held in the town centre as well as promote fancy dress celebrations.

The Great Newquay Pub Fancy Dress Competition was launched on New Years Eve in Newquay to bring in 2026 to kick-start the revival. Bars, pubs, restaurants and venues invited revellers to choose from various themes.

Newquay BID is developing a five-year plan to rebuild the celebrations as a major annual highlight to boost footfall, support businesses and celebrate the community.

BID manager Mark Warren said: “The meeting went really well.

“We are looking at a family and adult family fun events throughout the town.

“We want to celebrate New Year Newquay style, but we're looking at developing a family side to this also.

“We're talking about having an early fireworks display for families so they can come to town earlier and enjoy children’s discos and family fun on the high street.

“We are encouraging full fancy dress throughout the town. We are looking at having an opportunity of QR codes in different venues so people can download their pictures to a Newquay New Year site.

“There could be a prize for the best dress fancy dress.

“Sharing archive photos was great. Last year people really enjoyed looking back at a time machine of Newquay of the past on New Year.

“Plans to revive Newquay’s New Year celebrations are at an early stage. We are looking at delivery a lot more. There are lots of ideas and collaborative thinking.

“To be clear, we are not trying to bring back times of the past in Newquay with people misbehaving.”
