A group behind plans to restore the dilapidated Towan Sea Pool back to its former glory have admitted defeat.
Friends of Towan Sea Pool state a number of reasons are behind its decision to abandon the plans launched in 2021, which include a lack of support from various organisations including Cornwall Council and Newquay Town Council.
The group says people who made donations to its JustGiving restore Towan Sea Pool crowdfunder will be refunded if they can provide evidence of their original donation by April 2.
Newquay Sea Pool, in a Facebook post, said: “Cornwall Council originally destroyed the pool. They have no desire to manage it nor be responsible for its use in any way. Their health and safety policies do not allow the opening or reopening of any pools, they only tolerate those still in existence.
“Newquay Town Council, despite voting on this four times to support, over a number of years they simply cannot agree on what part to play in this.
“We have had to admit defeat. All donated monies are still held but the software on just giving doesn't give us full details of who donated, especially if you donated anonymously.
“If you originally donated to the cause, please message us with evidence of your original donation by 2nd April 2026. After this date we will donate all remaining monies to the Newquay Lions Carnival Fund for the benefit of the entire town. and publish a statement on here with full details of the amounts.”
