MOTORISTS have been advised to build in more travel time for journeys while gas engineers fix a gas leak on a pipe running underneath a main road into Truro.
Traffic ground to a halt yesterday [Wednesday, September 17] on Tresawls Road when Wales & West Utilities installed temporary three-way traffic lights in order to work safely on the pipe. These have since been removed in favour of using the bus lane as a contra-flow system.
“While this has significantly improved traffic flow, we would still advise drivers to leave more time to travel and to take alternative routes if at all possible,” said Vinnie Franek, Wales & West Utilities gas service manager for Truro.
“This is a complex job and we do not yet know how long our work will take. Our engineers have been working around the clock, as safely and as quickly as possible to fix the leak. We appreciate the patience and understanding of local residents and road users while we carry out this essential work.”
