The Port of Truro, which stretches into Carrick Roads as far as Mylor and St Just, welcomed its first ever working cruise ship last week.
The National Geographic Endurance, which can accommodate 138 guests, arrived on the River Fal on Friday morning and moored near the National Trust property of Trelissick. Guests were transferred ashore via Zodiac tenders and enjoyed time ashore exploring the estate.
Named in honour of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and his historic ship, the impressive vessel’s visit to the River Fal was the first of a cruise ship in service, the port being more familiar to such vessels in lay-up such as the SS Windsor Castle and SS Uganda.
The port hopes to welcome further cruise vessels in the future.
