A GoFundMe page set up in memory of a talented teenage sports star following her sudden death at a Cornish cricket ground has surged past the halfway mark, raising more than £20,000, thanks to strong community spirit.

The page was created “in loving memory of Amélia” Jones who collapsed at Grampound Road Cricket Club on Thursday evening (August 17) and was taken to hospital, where she later died.

The fundraising appeal has been set up by Amélia’s uncle, Sean Jones, to help the family with funeral costs and ease some of the immediate financial pressure following her unexpected passing.

The incident reached touched the hearts of thousands across the Duchy, with more than 400 donations being made in the first 48 hours.

Heartwarming condolences from individuals and clubs have been pouring in, and the family has thanked everyone for their kindness, generosity, thoughts and prayers for Amélia and her loved ones.

Among those to donate is King Charles Court Ltd, Falmouth, which generously gave £3,000 to the cause.

Abi Frances wrote on the fundraising page: “The team at King Charles Court are honoured to donate £3,000 in loving memory of Amelia. We send our deepest condolences to her family and friends and hope this donation, alongside the incredible generosity of so many others, can help make a difference in her memory. May she rest in peace.”

Another large donation came from charity We Remember Submariners. Ian Atkinson on behalf of the committee wrote: “The chairman, trustees and officials of the charity We Remember Submariners are honoured to be able to donate £2500 in memory of Amelia. May she rest in peace.”

The current total stands at £20,048.

The family has said any extra funds will be donated to a suitable charity.
