A FORMER bar in Newquay town centre that is due to be converted into a church is up for sale.

The Wax Activity Bar in Central Square is among 184 lots listed in the October auction being held by Clive Emson Auctioneers.

Blaze Church has received a change of use planning permission to transform the former bar into a church and community space.

The changes are due to incorporate several community benefits, including a potential free baby and toddler group, youth groups and clubs as well as a free drop-off service for school children.

Plans for the building, which was previously a Lloyds bank, include using the ground floor for a meeting and community space, while the first floor would accommodate activity rooms, toilets, and offices.

The former bank building is arranged over two floors with a main bar area upstairs and a small outside space. The total floor area is 405 sqm.

Auction appraiser Steve Appleby said: “This property is prominently positioned in the heart of Newquay.

“Surrounded by busy shops, bars and cafés, it benefits from strong footfall and offers excellent potential for a variety of uses, subject to all necessary consents being obtainable.”

Clive Emson Auctioneers’ seventh auction of eight in 2025 concludes on October 30 with bidding live from October 28.

Blaze Church, which has been operating from part of the Tall Trees nightclub building, has been contacted for comment.
