A FLAG raising ceremony was held in Newquay to honour the sacrifices of those who served in conflicts.

Newquay Town Council staged the event outside its council offices on Tuesday, November 11 at 9.30am.

Members of Newquay Junior Academy School Council helped the Mayor Cllr Drew Creek raise the Union Jack flag. A two-minute silence was observed afterwards.

Mayor Cllr Drew Creek said: “It was wonderful to have children from Newquay Junior Academy to help us mark this important and sombre moment to remember those who have been lost in conflict.”

The headteacher of Newquay Junior Academy Tania Findlay MBE said: “It is important for the children to participate in events like this to remember those who have served and given their lives in wars around the world.”
