Prime Cattle
Another all-round high quality entry of heavy bullocks forward, topped by a weighty Limousin steer from Mrs J Julian of Summercourt, Newquay at 376p/kg (£2,750), with two more from the same farming at 355p/kg (£2,570) and 340p/kg (£2,830).
Mr D J Pluess of St Tudy, Bodmin saw his best trio of Limousin steers away at 346p/kg, 334p/kg and 332p/kg.
A cracking run of cattle from J B Old Farms of Treyarnon Bay, Padstow followed with their 674kg South Devon steer at 339p/kg (£2,285), and a trio of Limo steers at 335p/kg, 329p/kg and 327p/kg (£2,460).
Mr R Kendall of Mevagissey, St Austell marketed his good Stabiliser steer at 331p/kg (£2,450) thereafter.
Heifer prices dominated by Mr Pluess with his run of smart Limousins at 350p/kg, 346p/kg, 343p/kg, 340p/kg, 339p/kg and 338p/kg twice. Other good heifers featuring from Mr Kendall with his Stabiliser at 328p/kg.
Cull Cows
Steadier numbers through the section this week, although the quality entry would again look a stand-on trade.
A lengthy 787kg Charolais cow from F G Pryor & Son Ltd of Perranwell Station, Truro soared away to 304p/kg (£2,395), with an 840kg Limo cow from Mr A S Ball of Nanstallon, Bodmin at 300p/kg (£2,520) and a Simmental cow from Messrs D R & J C Vincent & Son of Tregavethan, Truro & Son of Tregavethan, Truro at 290p/kg (£2,053).
Messrs A R, B & A Hosking of St Martin, Helston saw their Angus cow top the natives at 282p/kg; tied with the best dairy type being a Friesian cow from Messrs H L Banbury & Son of St Ervan, Wadebridge at the same money.
A weighty 848kg Shorthorn cow from Mr R Withers of Probus, Truro parted away at 278p/kg (£2,358) and a Simmental cow from Messrs Vincent at 251p/kg.
Further dairy types to 245p/kg for a Friesian cow from Messrs J M & A J Laity of Rosudgeon, Penzance, with a pair of Friesians from Messrs T A & A M Wills of St Erme, Truro close behind at 243p/kg and 242p/kg.
Store Cattle
A sizeable summer entry of 160 Store Cattle presented, selling to £2235 for a shapey 26 m.o Limousin steer from R M Farming & Co of Sticker, St Austell, with a Charolais steer from the same farming next at £2005 and their pairs of Hereford and Angus steers hot on the heels at £1980 and £1970.
Mr A S Ball of Nanstallon, Bodmin saw his best bunch of four Limousin steers at 15 m.o sell away at £1900, a single 19 m.o Angus steer from Messrs R G Keast & Son of Allet, Truro realised £1885, a pair of South Devons from R M Farming & Co at £1840 and the best pair of Blue steers from a run down from St Ervan, Wadebridge for Messrs H L Banbury & Son saw £1800.
Other notable steer prices at £1750 for a single Angus from Mr G D Thomas of Towednack, St Ives, a British White from R M Farming & Co at £1710 and four Blues from Neil Rowe Farming Ltd of The Lizard, Helston at £1685, whilst younger flashy Limousins at 12 m.o from Mr C P Rundle of Par, St Austell at £1460.
Highest price heifer also awarded to Mr Rundle for a further four 14 m.o Limos at £1700, six Friesian heifers from Messrs Banbury to £1675, a single 24 m.o Limo from Mr R T Dunn of Par, St Austell at £1660 and a smart pair of Charolais from Mrs J Kemp of Predannack, Helston at the same money.
Topping the Native heifers at £1650 was a trio of 15 m.o Angus from Messrs A R, B & A Hosking of St Martin, Helston, more Limousins from Mr Ball to £1580, £1540 for Blues from Messrs Banbury and a single 14 m.o Shorthorn heifer from Mr R Withers of Probus, Truro parted away at £1500.
Two good cow and calf units from Messrs G S & K M Trevail of Bugle, St Austell looked well sold at £2270 for a Charolais and £1850 for a South Devon, with their Angus x calves at foot.
Rearing Calves
A good trade for the smart entry of calves presented, despite the hot weather and many farmers being busy with field work.
Topping the younger calves was a fantastic run of month-old British Blue steers from W P & J Jenkin Ltd of St Martin, Helston with their prices at £635, £615, £595, £590 and £585.
Mr W R Davey from Probus, Truro also saw his well reared 2 m.o Angus bull away at £620 and younger Angus bulls from the same farming at £600 twice and £580 twice.
Messrs L W & S Hosken of St Keverne, Helston saw their two classy Simmental bulls away at £565 & £545 and month-old Angus bulls from Messrs Searle & Son of Rosudgeon, Penzance at £565, £560, £530, £505 and £475.
Heifers topped again by W P & J Jenkin with their month-old Blue looking well sold at £575, a 2 m.o Angus from Mr Davey at £475, another Blue from Messrs Jenkin at £470; tied with a Hereford heifer from Messrs P J Grylls & Sons of Kenwyn, Truro.
Another good Simmental heifer from Messrs Hosken at £450, a young Hereford from Mr Davey at £405 and a Hereford from Mr V M Moyle of Halvasso, Penryn at £390.
Messrs Grylls back again this week with another run of quality stirks, topping at £850 and £800 for a pair of 6 m.o Hereford steers, a pair of 3 m.o Limo steers at £710 and a single Blue at £705.
Messrs Jenkin well in the mix with their shapey 6 m.o Blue steer at £820 and a 6 m.o Blue steer from Messrs N J Cox & H Floyd of Tregony, Truro at £640. Messrs Grylls also topping the heifers with their 6 m.o Limo away at £660.
Finished Hoggetts
A single pen of 4 hoggs forward from Mr M Vian of Gorran, St Austell sold away to L C Farms, Ltd of Hatherleigh for £156 for 51kg heavies (306ppk).
Prime Lambs
A very strong trade for the finished lambs whilst averages are back slightly, the prices are holding their own for the time of year.
Some of the lambs have been affected by the hot weather and impacting condition, which were less sought after in contrast to the lambs with good finish.
A top price of £213.50 for an enormous 68kg lamb from Miss A Keyte of Castallack, Penzance with a pair of 56kg lambs from the same vendor at £210, both pens sold to L C Farms Ltd of Highampton.
Setting the premium at 426p/kg were medium weight Charollais crosses from Mr T D Retallick of Talskiddy, St Columb sold to R J Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow.
Cull Ewes
Shorter numbers this week with fewer of the best type ewes presented, and a high proportion of small bodied ewes.
Prices peaked at £201 for a huge Texel ewe from W & H Eustice of St Ervan, Wadebridge.
Further Texel and Texel x to £179 and £172 for Mr A S P Wright of Penhallow, Truro; £171 for Messrs P T R & P E Jones & Son of Crantock, Newquay; £159 for Messrs J Lutey & Sons of Grampound Road, Truro; £159 again for Mr Wright; £159 for Mr H A Ross of Tregony, Truro.
Charollais to £178 for Messrs S C R & J F Brake of Mawgan Porth, Newquay; £178 again for Messrs Lutey; £160 again for Messrs Brake.
Suffolk Mule to £176 again for Mr Wright; £166 for Miss A Keyte of Penzance; £157 again for Mr Wright and £155 for Mr B Bucknell of Kestle Mill, Newquay.
Zwartbles to £171 for Mrs F Vincent of Releath, Camborne. North of England Mules to £160 again for Messrs Lutey.
