Prime Cattle
Good numbers through the ring again this week and trade for the top end of the entry would look just as strong. Top price awarded to a stunning 619kg Limousin heifer at 418p/kg (£2,587) from Mr R H Eddy of Tehidy, Camborne.
Also well in the mix was a run of the usual top quality Limousins from Messrs W T Bryant & Sons of St Martin, Helston with heifers to 415p/kg (£2,536), steers to 410p/kg twice (£3,169 & £2,932) and 408p/kg (£2,926), tied with another Limousin heifer from Mr Eddy at the same ppk and £2,672, and a final Limousin heifer from Messrs Bryant at 405p/kg (£2,685).
The best Simmental heifer forward from Mr M D Rogers of St Hilary, Penzance parted away at 392p/kg, followed by a heavyweight 711kg Limousin steer from Messrs R G, E J & G A Williams of St Martin, Helston at 390p/kg (£2,773).
A good 676kg Limousin heifer from Mr T Eustice of Crantock, Newquay went under the hammer at 385p/kg (£2,603).
Cull Cows
A similar entry and trade through the cull section, topping at 285p/kg (£2,408) for a 845kg Limousin cow from Mrs E R Clemens of St Ervan, Wadebridge, closely followed by a young Friesian heifer from Mr D J Heller of Blackwater, Truro at 284p/kg and a South Devon cow from Messrs R G & J M Prowse of St Allen, Truro realised 272p/kg.
Mr S E Chapman of Silverwell, Truro saw their run of Welsh Black cows trade at 262p/kg, 250p/kg and 248p/kg.
Further dairy types to 248p/kg for a Friesian cow from Messrs A D & J A Bray of St Martin, Helston and another Friesian heifer from Mr Heller at 245p/kg.
A single 1015kg Hereford cull bull from D J Bray & Partners of Lanivet, Bodmin parted away at 263p/kg and £2,669.
Store Cattle
A good entry and fine trade which saw heifers leading the way and topping at £2120 twice, realised by both Mr A Blamey of Veryan, Truro for his cracking 2-year-old Angus and Messrs D C Roberts & Son of Praze, Hayle for a super 20-month-old Hereford.
Mr Blamey went on to sell Blues to £1825 and £1740, whilst Messrs Roberts & Son sold further Herefords to £1655 and £1610.
Mr D C Lugg of St Martin, Helston sold a cracking bunch of four 22-month-old Blue heifers to £1775 whilst a pair of 16-month-old Limousins from Mrs E Pascoe of Helston achieved £1560.
Younger types topping at £1450 for a quality bunch of four Angus heifers on behalf of Devichoys Farm Limited of Perranarworthal, Truro who also sold an older single to £1400 whilst young Limos from F G Gluyas & Partners of Camborne achieved £1215, £1055 and £1050.
Steers topping at £2000 on behalf of Messrs W S Gay & Son of St Allen for a choice 21-month-old Limousin, whilst Devichoys Farm Limited sold a trio of 19-month-old Angus steers to £1935 followed by Blues from Mr D C Lugg at £1895 and £1800.
A framey run of six Herefords from Messrs D C Roberts & Son achieved £1810, whilst younger steers topped at £1980 for a single 15-month-old Charolais on behalf of Messrs J & S Trembath of Gurnards Head, Zennor.
Further young Charolais from Messrs Trembath to £1565, followed by a pair of 1-year-old Angus from Devichoys Farm Limited at £1510 and five fleshy 9-month-old Limousin steers from F G Gluyas and Partners at £1475.
Rearing Calves
Calves would look a strong trade for all shapes and sizes, with a packed ringside full of active buyers.
Top of the young calves to £675 for a 2 m.o Simmental bull from Messrs L W & S Hosken of Tregowris, Helston, followed by a 2 m.o Blue bull from Messrs R J, K M, A M & S E Worden of Gunwalloe, Helston at £660.
Hereford bulls at 3 m.o from Messrs J R, P M & D W Treleaven of Trenarren, St Austell traded at £585 and their younger Hereford bull at £475.
Angus steers topped at £470 for a 2 m.o animal from Messrs R N & D Jenkin of Manaccan, Helston with others one bid behind at £465 twice.
Young Angus bulls from Mr D J Heller of Blackwater, Truro selling for £425, a single same aged Angus bull from Messrs A D & J A Bray of St Martin, Helston at £420 and a month old Blue bull from Messrs Worden at £415.
Heifers to £540 again for a 2 m.o Simmental from Messrs Hosken, followed by a run of 2 - 3 m.o Hereford heifers from Messrs Treleaven with prices at £450, £365 twice and £350 twice.
Angus heifers from Messrs Jenkin at £370 and young Blue heifers from Messrs G J D Champion & Son of Praze, Camborne at £360.
A run of young mainly Friesian bulls from Phillips Partnership of Tywardreath, Par saw a phenomenal trade and keen bidding with prices at £260, £250, £240 twice, £230 and £225 to name but a few.
Only a handful of older stirks on offer topped at £745 for a 5 m.o Blue heifer from Mr R G Rowe of London Apprentice, St Austell.
Prime Hoggetts
Prices easier on the week following the national trends, but overall good demand.
A quality pair of heavyweight 64.5kg hoggs from Mr D Searle of Wendron, Helston sold to £159.50, sold to J V Richards of Perranwell Station.
Setting the premium at 318p/kg was a single 39kg hogg from Messrs K & D McFadden of St Just, Penzance, purchased by R J Trevarthen Ltd.
Cull Ewes
A continued flying trade and many more ewes are required to satisfy buyer requirements, as the light entry forward witnessed an average of £150 overall.
All ewes in very strong demand, with prices peaking at £227 for a medium Texel ewe from Mr A Grange of Ruan High Lanes, Truro. This was followed by a Charollais ewe from Miss L Monk of Chacewater, Truro selling to £190.
Dorset and Dorset X ewes to £181 from Mr B Lugg of Cury Cross Lanes, Helson; £170 from for Mr J T Rowe of Lower Penponds, Camborne; and £160 again for Mr Lugg.
Further medium Texels to £169.50 again from Mr A Grange. Suffolks to £165 again for Miss Monk; and £149 again for Mr Lugg.
A cracking run of mixed ewes from Caerhays Farms of Caerhays, St Austell to £147. Sheep (2T) to £159.50 and £143.50 again for Caerhays Farms.
Store Sheep
A grand trade and even entry with all pens bar a couple trading within a £10 note.
Dearest on the day from Messrs K S & L Dodd of Truro achieving £117, who sold a further pen to £112.50 thereafter, followed by pens from Caerhays Farms of Gorran at £116 and £111.
The best two pens of a smart run from Messrs W & R Taffinder of Truro traded at £113.50 and £113.
