Prime Cattle
Yet another sizeable and quality entry through the ring at Truro, with some good bullocks forward seeing a fast trade.
Top price of 410p/kg (£2,858) for a shapey 697kg Limousin heifer from Mrs J Julian of Summercourt, Newquay, followed by a 663kg Limousin heifer from Mr R H Eddy of Tehidy, Camborne at 405p/kg (£2,685) and another good Limousin from Mr W J P Julian of Summercourt, Newquay topping the steers at 395p/kg (£2,959).
A cracking Limousin heifer from Mr D Jenkin of Manaccan, Helston parted away at 392p/kg (£2,391) and a pair of Limousin steers from Chytodden Farm of Towednack, St Ives at 391p/kg and 390p/kg.
A thumping 788kg Shorthorn steer from Messrs J Lutey & Sons of Grampound Road, Truro sold away at 388p/kg and a resultant top pounds-per-head of £3,057.
A pair of OTM Limousin heifers from Messrs W T Bryant & Sons of St Martin, Helston saw a fast trade and realised 390p/kg (£2,430) and 385p/kg (£2,741) respectively.
Cull Cows
A very smart run of cows to report, with plenty of strong beef types looking very well sold.
Top for a run of strong Limousin cows from Messrs W T Bryant & Sons of St Martin, Helston realising 350p/kg (£2,772), 338p/kg (£2,481), 337p/kg (£2,693) and 336p/kg (£2,530).
A Devon heifer from Mr B J Maycock of Rosenannon, Bodmin sold away at 320p/kg and a cow-aged Friesian steer from Mr G Carter of Troon, Camborne selling for 295p/kg.
A pair of cow-aged Shorthorn steers from Mr Carter at 275p/kg and 269p/kg and a Devon cow from Mr A J C Parker of Tregavethan, Truro and a Shorthorn heifer from Mr Carter both tied at 268p/kg.
Another Limousin cow from Messrs Bryant at 265p/kg, a South Devon cow from Tregerles Farm Estates of Mitchell, Newquay at 261p/kg and the best Hereford cow from Mr C J Semmens of Carnmenellis, Redruth at 256p/kg.
Top dairy type cow to a good Friesian from Messrs D C & W A Thomas of Tresillian, Truro at 277p/kg, a Jersey cow from Nicholls & Co of Wheal Rose, Scorrier at 239p/kg, another Friesian from Messrs Thomas at 235p/kg and a Friesian from Messrs A D & J A Bray of St Martin, Helston at 221p/kg.
Store Cattle
A terrific entry of over 320 bullocks through the ring which included our Special Sale of South Devons.
A grand 22-month-old South Devon steer from Messrs C R Elliott and Partners of Portloe, Truro sold to £2290, followed by an exceptional 2-year-old Limousin steer from Mr M J Biddick of Withiel, Bodmin at £2180.
Further premium South Devon steers to £2105 thereafter on behalf of Messrs Elliott & Partners, followed by top quality 2-year-old Limousins from Mrs V Gay of Trenance Hill, St Austell to £2100 and £2080 twice.
Neat 1½-year-old steers from Messrs S M & J Blee of St Martin, Helston sold to £2045 for Limos and £2040 for Blues, whilst a 2-year-old Angus steer from Mr P G Gilbert of St Buryan, Penzance realised £1995.
A 2-year-old South Devon steer from Messrs T F & D J Crapp of Pemboa, Helston achieved £1980, followed by 20-month-old Limos from Messrs J P & T C Chapman of Higher Laity, Redruth to £1970.
Younger steers selling to £1810 for a cracking bunch of 11-month-old Charolais on behalf of Messrs P J & J L Bennett of St Mawgan, Newquay, followed by a sublime 1-year-old Limo from Mr J F Rowe of Par, St Austell at £1750.
Quality 1-year-old South Devons to £1675 on behalf of Mrs S J Tune of Tregonetha, St Columb whilst a pair of Parthenaise steers from Messrs W H & L M Williams & Son of Allet, Truro looked well sold at £1650.
Heifers topping at £2550 for a striking 1-year-old South Devon breeding heifer from Messrs P S & A P Rowe of Menheniot, Liskeard who sold a further slightly younger breeding heifer to £2420, whilst Mr J C Ball of St Merryn, Padstow sold 2-year-old South Devon heifers to £2110 and £1975.
2-year-old South Devons also from Messrs C R Elliott & Partners at £1920, whilst Mrs V Gay sold a 20-month-old Limo to £1910. Mr K R Williams of Tehidy, Camborne sold a flashy bunch of four 21-month-old Charolais heifers to £1895, Messrs J P & T C Chapman sold four 19- month-old Limos to £1875, Messrs S M & J Blee sold a pair of 20-month-old Limos to £1860, followed by a pair of 26-month-old Blues from Mr S G Collins of St Newlyn East, Newquay at £1835.
Tregerles Farm Estates of Mitchell, Newquay sold good quality South Devons to £1800.
Younger heifers to £1650 on behalf of James Eustice Farms of St Ervan, Wadebridge with further South Devons from the same farm to £1610 and £1560.
Nice young Charolais from Messrs P J & J L Bennett sold to £1615 whilst Messrs Talling & Palmer of Lanteglos-by-Fowey sold young South Devons to £1590.
No shortage of young heifers thereafter trading between £1200 and £1400.
A show stopping 25-month-old South Devon breeding bull from Messrs P R & T Eustice of Crantock, Newquay parted away at £3700, followed by a slightly older breeding bull from Messrs W B & S P Penrose of Praze-an-Beeble, Camborne at £2380.
Capital Limousin cows and calves from Messrs J A & L S M Tripconey of St Keverne, Helston realised £2880 and £2850.
Rearing Calves
Supply tight and demand strong this week, with a light entry selling away to a fast trade.
Top of the bull calves to £690 and £685 for a smart pair of month-old Blues from Messrs C J & P H George of Tresillian, Truro, with a same-aged Blue bull from Messrs J A Sweet & Partners of St Newlyn East, Truro at £680 and their month old Angus bull at £565; the latter tied with a month old Hereford bull from J C & F C Tripconey Ltd of Mullion, Helston at the same money.
Further month-old Hereford bulls from Messrs A & B Pascoe of North Country, Redruth at £550 and a smart Simmental bull from Mr I Towler of Colan, Newquay at £540.
Heifers also topped by Messrs George with their month-old Blue selling away at £690 and a smart trio of Simmental heifers from Mr Towler at £635 thrice.
Young monthold Angus heifers from Mr P S Best of St Newlyn East, Newquay to £415 and the best month-old Hereford heifer from Messrs Pascoe at £395.
A run of older Angus Stirks from Mr D J Heller of Blackwater, Truro saw prices top at £890 for bulls and £730 for heifers.
Finished Hoggetts
A fiery trade prevails, with all old season lambs averaging £184/head.
A pair of 50kg hoggs sold to £192 for Amy Seaton-Burridge of Blackwater, Truro, first-time customers at Truro, sold to J V Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station, Truro.
Just behind at £190 for a superb pen of 51.8kg Texel crosses from Messrs T B & M B Osborne of St Eval, Wadebridge.
The best of three pens of Beltex hoggs from Mr S G Collins of St Newlyn East, Newquay, at £189 for 49.8kg, and 45.2kg medium weights from the same farm set the premium at 407p/kg, sold to L C Farms Ltd of Highampton, Devon.
Prime New Season Lamb
Very strong prices for all weights and many more could have been sold on the trade, with new season lambs in high demand.
A top price of £203 for a smart pen of 47.6kg Suffolk mule crosses from Messrs W P L Cowling & Sons of Newquay, sold to R J Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow, Penryn.
This was followed by a big pen of 43.5kg Charollais lambs at £193.50 for Mr A W Nicholls of Chacewater, Truro.
Setting the premium at 457p/kg were 40.5kg Dorset lambs from Mr T Ham of Baldhu, Truro, purchased by R J Trevarthen Ltd.
Cull Ewes
Cull ewes continue in high demand, topping this week at £245 for a grand pen of Charollais ewes from Mr D J A Eyles of Ladock, Truro.
These were followed closely by further quality Charollais from Messrs R J & A M Pedrick of Buckfastleigh, Devon at £235 and £229.50. Further Charollais to £227 and £221 again for Mr Eyles.
Texel to £218 and £210 for Mr R A Coad of Cubert, Newquay; and £175 for Chytodden Farm of Towednack, St Ives.
Suffolk ewes to £218 for Mr R Gregory of Chacewater, Truro. Poll Dorset to £191 and £173 for Mr D J Lobb of Little Polgooth, St Austell.
Suffolk x to £191 for Messrs M & C Hawken of Castlean-Dinas, St Columb; £185 for Mr T Tremain of Bridge, St Columb and £174 for Messrs W P L Cowling & Sons of Newquay.
Charollais x to £185 for Messrs J Lutey & Sons of Grampound Road, Truro. Rams a cracking trade, topping at £240 for a Texel from Miss S Matthews of Gulval, Penzance.
£180 for a Suffolk ram from Mr R Gregory of Truro and £167 for a Jacob ram again from Miss Matthews.
Sheep (2T) to £164 again for Messrs Hawken and £150 for Messrs J A & L S M Tripconey of St Keverne, Helston.
Store Sheep
A super trade right the way through, seeing the top price store hogs trade at £158 on behalf of Tregerles Farm Estates of Mitchell, Newquay.
Ms Seaton-Burridge of Blackwater, Truro sold a fine pen to £149 followed by big singles from Messrs J & I Parfitt of Lanteglos by Fowey realising £140.
Tremendous couples in once again from Mr A Kemp of Tregony, Truro with singles achieving £280 (£140/life), £278, £272, £268, £258 and doubles to £375 (£125/life), £370 twice and £290.
