THOUSANDS of visitors are expected to descend on Fowey this month as the town’s Royal Regatta returns from Sunday, August 16 to Saturday, August 22.
A wide range of activities are planned for this year’s event for residents and visitors to witness and take part in during the week’s festivities.
Traditional land-based activities include the carnival procession, car show and fun run will be held, while on the water there will be the town’s sailing regatta, as well as gig racing on the final day.
Highlights of the week include the Royalty Crowning, which will be held at Fowey Hall Hotel on Monday, August 17. The crowning of this year’s Regatta Royalty, including the Carnival Queen and Fairy Queen, will see mayor of Fowey, Lynn Simms, officiate with the help of town crier Alan Giles.
Wednesday, August 19 will start off with the traders carnival which will see people donning costumes and decorating their premises. The theme for the 2026 outing is ‘Mardi Gras’.
The highly-anticipated Grand Carnival will take place later that day, starting at Squires Field at 6.30pm. A large crowd is expected to line the ancient streets of Fowey to watch the colourful parade make it’s way through the town.
Thursday, August 20 will see the return of the popular Fowey Car Show and Parade. Public viewing for this year’s outing at Fowey River Academy begins at 2pm, with the awards presentation taking place at 4pm and the procession from 5pm.
A super fun 5km run, organised by Rugged Interactive, will begin from Readymoney Beach at 10.30am on Friday, August 21. Those wanting to take part can submit an entry form on the regatta website and all participants will receive a special t-shirt on the day.
After gig rowing takes place on Saturday, August 22, the traditional firework display will finish off the week in style from 10pm.
