A Charity Open Day is being held at St Michael’s Mount on Sunday, June 21 between 10am to 5pm.

The St Aubyn family are opening the iconic gardens to raise money for a range of nursing and health charities as part of the National Garden Scheme.

During Storm Goretti, the island experienced extremely strong westerly winds, which caused significant damage to the woodland on the exposed northerly side of the island however, the terraced gardens on the sheltered south-easterly side, were left untouched.

Visitors will be interested to see the significant progress that has been made to clear the 121 fallen trees, which has created the opportunity for replanting.

Care is being taken to ensure that any new planting will be resilient and respect the island's unique character.

Those visiting will also be delighted to discover that the subtropical terraced gardens remain intact and as vibrant as ever because they were sheltered from the worst of the storm.
