A CLASSICAL music group will be performing three concerts in St Columb Major.

Harmoniemusik will take to the stage at St Columb Major Church as part of its Classical Cornwall series on August 26, 28 and 30 at 7.30pm.

The group will play varied programmes including works during the first concert by Telemann, Handel and Donizetti. They will perform Trio Sonata No 11 in D minor by Telemann. Trio for flute, bassoon and piano by Donizetti and Lascia ch’io pianga by Handel.

They will also perform Kreutzer’s trio for clarinet, bassoon and piano Opus 43 and Don Banks prologue, Night Music and Blues for Two.

The second performance includes Vaughan Williams’ famous Fantasia on Greensleeves, an early Beethoven trio for violin, cello and piano, Berwald’s Septet for wind and strings as well as Nielsen’s Serenata in Vano.

Harmoniemusik will perform much-loved classics of the chamber music repertoire in its final concert such as Saint-Saens, Carnival of the Animals and Schubert’s Octet.

Harmoniemusik’s Classic Cornwall series has secured a loyal and enthusiastic following since its first concerts in August 1992, when it began its annual celebration of chamber music in the surroundings of the parish church at St Columb Major, an historic setting noted for its “beautiful” acoustic.

The group has given more than 350 concerts in the United Kingdom, Europe and beyond since its formation in 1991.

Harmoniemusik has made a number of CD recordings, which are broadcast from time to time on Radio 3, and has become renowned for its distinctive repertoire and performance style.

Light pre-concert suppers and interval refreshments will be served each evening in the Columba Centre from 6pm.
