TWO artists have helped bolster Newquay’s growing reputation for having a vibrant street art scene following the launch of a new initiative.
Diane Griffiths and Siobhan Taylor-Levene have created artworks for Newquay BID’s new Door Art Tour initiative, which will stretch across town from Headland Road to Cliff Road.
Siobhan has created a wave artwork on the gate of David Ball Estate Agencies in East Street and Diane has painted a beach scene at the EE store in Bank Street.

The murals aim to connect different parts of the high street and encourage visitors to explore more of the town centre while adding “colour, creativity and vibrancy.”
The scheme follows the success of its MUQY Newquay Street Art Walking Tour, which has seen several murals created across the town centre over the past few years by renowned artists including Ben Allen, Kleiner Shames, Elle Koziupa, 45 RPM and Hixxy.
Newquay BID is seeking a minimum of 20 town centre businesses willing to volunteer a door that an artist can transform into a unique piece of art.
Artists are matched with participating businesses and agree the final concept collaboratively.
The artist behind the winning door mural will receive a £1,000 cash prize.
Newquay BID manager Mark Warren said: “From my point view Newquay has always been a creative town and now we’re showing that. Not just in galleries but also on the high street.
“We have designated doors for the Door Art Tour initiative from Cliff Road all way up to the Headland Hotel and were still looking for more.
“We’re really excited to see the first of our door murals popping up around town being created by incredibly talented local artists Diane Griffiths Art and Siobhan Taylor-Levene.
“Diane has linked the colours of her design with the colours of the EE shop as part of the collaboration with the business.
“Over the next few weeks, people will see many more doors being transformed across the town. Some of the artists might even be battling the Cornish weather to get them finished.
“Once all the murals are complete the community will get to decide the winner. We’ll be opening a public vote so everyone can choose their favourite door and help crown the winning artist.
“The Door Art Tour initiative is all about bringing more colour, creativity and energy into our streets for our community and for the visitors who come to enjoy everything Newquay has to offer.
“The art initiative is being staged in conjunction with the larger mural scheme for visitors and residents to experience not just the amazing local art pieces but the businesses that surround them.”
Mr Warren believes Newquay’s emerging street art scene will help the town in its bid for the UK Town of Culture 2028 title. The bid highlights the town's surf culture and year-round community activity to secure the £3-million prize.
