A major milestone has been reached in the development of the new Camborne and Redruth Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), set to open later this year.

Over the weekend, all 13 modular units were successfully delivered and connected at the Camborne and Redruth Community Hospital site. Internal works are now underway to complete the fit-out ahead of the official opening of this vital new facility

Once operational, the CDC will provide a wide range of essential diagnostic services, including:

  • X-rays, MRI and CT scans
  • Blood tests (phlebotomy)
  • ECGs and respiratory checks
  • Endoscopy services

The new centre will provide local diagnostic capacity, helping thousands of people across Cornwall access faster and more convenient NHS tests and scans, closer to home.

The Camborne and Redruth CDC is a partnership between NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board and InHealth, the UK’s largest specialist provider of diagnostic solutions.

InHealth is already delivering MRI, CT and endoscopy services from state-of-the-art mobile units in the area, and it is expected that many thousands of patients will benefit from the services provided at the permanent Redruth site.

Susan Bracefield, chief nursing officer, NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board, said: “We are excited to be opening another new community diagnostic centre for Cornwall, as part of our continued investment in delivering more services closer to people’s homes, something we know local people really value.

“Last year, more than 96,000 tests such as MRI scans, blood tests and ultrasounds were carried out at our CDCs in Bodmin and Penzance, giving patients quicker and easier access to important scans and tests.

“This new centre at Redruth will mean even more patients can benefit from faster diagnoses, shorter waiting times, and improved access to treatment.”

Geoff Searle, chief executive of InHealth, added: “This is an exciting milestone in the South West CDC programme, and we’re delighted to be working in partnership with NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board to bring this new centre to life.

“Expanding this model of healthcare in the South West will bring real benefits to local patients, improving health outcomes through greater access, capacity and choice.

“InHealth has been partnering with the NHS for more than 30 years, operating over 20 community diagnostic centres across England — including three already in the South West — and we’re proud to continue expanding this model of care.”

The hospital site already benefits from strong public transport links, and an additional 22 new parking bays will be provided to ensure easy and convenient access for patients and visitors.
