A BODMIN youngster with an ‘immense interest in history’ is seeking to raise money for two military related causes from an exhibition of her collection.
Mollie, 13, has collected a range of memorabilia which ranges from medals to hats, bullets and a death penny and is putting it on display in an event to be held at St Petroc’s Church on Thursday, November 5.
It will run from 10am until 2pm with coffee and cake also available.
The money raised from the event will be split between the Royal British Legion and the Bodmin Keep – the latter of which is raising funds to acquire and renovate the former military building so it can be used for years to come.
Mollie has previously made it her mission to raise money for the Bodmin Keep through a sponsored litter pick across the town and has also played a part in helping the fundraising by the Bodmin branch of the Royal British Legion with her assistance in the annual poppy appeal.
She said: “I love history and it’s important to learn it so it doesn’t repeat itself. I like to collect war items because I feel I can look after them in respect to the person who risked their life. I thought it was a good time to share my collection as it’s the time most people remember soldiers.
“I wanted to raise money for Bodmin keep and royal British legion because Bodmin keep need funds to repair the museum so children can go and learn and royal British legion so they can help more veterans.”
Proud mother Louise Gilburt added: “Mollie has an immense interest in history, specifically wars around the world.
Mollie will be setting up her very first exhibition of her collection which ranges from medals to hats, bullets to a death penny, all in aid of raising money for Bodmin Keep and Royal British Legion.
Mollie has previously raised money for both by litter picking and selling poppies. This year however she would like to do something slightly different too and to talk to like minded people.
“Everyone is welcome and thanks to Revd Elaine for letting us use the church. Tea, coffee and cake will be available!”
