THE high number of people attending the St Austell Remembrance Day parade and church service in recent years has led to changes in the arrangements for this year.
The parade and service, organised by the town council and the Royal British Legion, will take place on the afternoon of Sunday, November 6.
This year, the service will be held at St John’s Methodist Church rather than Holy Trinity Church.
The organisers said: “To accommodate a larger attendance at the service of remembrance, changes have been made to the parade route and the church service.
“The parade will step off at 2.15pm from St John’s Methodist Church and march through the town to Holy Trinity Church where the wreath-laying ceremony will take place.
“After the wreath-laying ceremony, the parade will re-form and march back through Fore Street to St John’s Methodist Church for the service of remembrance.”

The parade will form up at St John’s Methodist Church at 1.45pm. Those taking part in the parade will include St Austell Band musicians, dignitaries, representatives of the town council, Royal British Legion members, veterans, uniformed public services personnel, sea cadets, army cadets, ATC cadets, Scouts, Brownies and members of other youth organisations.
The parade will go down Bodmin Road, which will be closed to traffic, and then along Fore Street. At the war memorial, standards will be paraded along the piazza.
Following the wreath-laying ceremony, a two-minute silence will be observed.
Then, as the parade returns along Fore Street, it will pass a reviewing platform where dignitaries will be located.
After the parade has arrived back at St John’s Methodist Church, the service of remembrance will take place at 3.30pm with the adults on the ground floor and the young people upstairs. The service will include the National Anthem.
