COMMUNITY choirs are coming together to stage a Christmas concert for good causes.
Newquay, Falmouth and Bodmin Good Afternoon Choirs with special guests Bishops’ Learning Academy will hold a joint Christmas celebration on Thursday, November 27 between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
There will be a collection for Heart of Headland (Royal Cornwall Hospitals), Man Down and Georgia’s Voice which are the Cornish Good Afternoon Choir’s chosen charities in 2025. Mayor Cllr Drew Creek will be in attendance at the carol concert.
Celebration Carol concerts will take place across the South West during the run up to Christmas featuring local community Good Afternoon Choirs with over 2,000 people expected to attend. Bath-based music man Grenville Jones started the Good Afternoon Choirs 16 years ago and they now take place across South West England, South Wales and London. The choirs meet in the afternoon on a weekly basis and are led by local talented musicians.
Each of the concerts supports a local organisation or charity and these are chosen by the choir members themselves. Special guests are children from a local Primary School and, over the years, many relationships have been built between choir members and the school. At the concerts the children perform their own special Christmas pieces, and the Good Afternoon Choir also learn Christmas items for their young guests and parents and families who always attend.
All the carol celebrations will be free admission with a retiring collection for the Good Afternoon Choir’s chosen 2025 charity.
