THIS year’s Tiwardrai Fest promises to be a lively celebration of all things Cornish with traditional music, dancing, displays, stories and activities, crafts and craftworkers and a chance to meet the renowned Black Company, a historical re-enactment group who represent a household of mercenary soldiers from the Wars of the Roses. The group will be performing sword-fights and battles as well as sharing their everyday life from these turbulent times.

Held on the site of Tywardreath’s famous Priory this popular event welcomes people of all ages, encouraging everyone to join in and learn something new about Cornwall’s rich heritage.

The event includes performances from folk artists Ryp an Mor, Ilow Splann and the Tywardreath Folk Jam, rhythmic percussion from Bart’s Beats, ukelele music and dance performances by Tywardreath Morris.

Celebrating Cornish culture and crafts there’s plenty of opportunity to join in, explore and learn something new. Ancient Days and Ways giving an insight into life in Romano-British times in Cornwall; the Bird Lady of Fowey will be sharing skills in the ancient art of falconry; discover traditional spinning, knitting and textile skills; have a go at willow weaving or create your own hand-formed pot from clay. Cornish story teller Iain Marshall, a Bardic member of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids will be there spinning a yarn or two.

Food and drink will be available, including home baked cakes, hot filled rolls and bread, organic beers and gin from Atlantic Distillery.

This annual event has a delightful, friendly family atmosphere with plenty for all ages to enjoy. Organised by local history group In Search of Tywardreath it raises funds for local causes.

Tiwardrai Fest takes place at Newhouse Farm, Tywardreath, PL24 2QF on May 3 and 4 from 10am to 4pm.
