A CARER from Camborne who got married recently had the young adults she supports at work walk her down the aisle as her bridesmaids.

Kayrin Callaghan, aged 31, instantly knew she wanted the people she cares for to be part of her special day after her husband, Alex Slater-Brown, 26, proposed.

The mother-of-two has supported Jamie Kevern, 26, who has Down's syndrome, for two years.

Kayrin also helps Daisy, 18, Francesca, 21, and Chloe, 26 who also have Down's syndrome, and struck up a special bond with them all, enjoying days out to the local swimming pool and cinema together.

She asked the four of them to be her ‘flowermaids’ by getting them to open boxes full of balloons which enclosed the invitation.

They said yes and Kayrin and Jamie sealed the deal, surrounded by their family and friends.

Kayrin said: "It was amazing to have the people that I love and support around me and be a part of our wedding and you can't get any better than that.

"I find it really important to me that the people that I spend every day with, you know, these people are like family to me. Jamie is like a brother and the girls are like sisters.

"To have them be a part of my special day with my children and my best friends and to give them that opportunity; dressing up and hampers and have them spoil for a day is nice because they deserve it."

She continued: “I had to plan a good way to ask them - so I decided to get some balloons which had the words ‘Will you be my flowermaids?’ on.

“They opened the boxes and Francesca, who is the best at reading, read what it said aloud to everyone.

“Their reaction was amazing, and we had lots of tears. Then they started twerking - which they love to do.”

Kayrin added: "It was the best ever and the girls loved it, it was amazing. The girls with Down syndrome wore gold dresses and my husband's best friend met them up at the aisle and walked them down, which was really special.”
