A Newquay care home has been praised for providing an overall good standard of care - the second highest rating possible.

Kimberley Court in Crantock Street, which is operated by the Anchor Hanover Group, was judged by the Care Quality Commission following an inspection as being good in all categories including safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

The care regulator was impressed by staff who were recognised as being “kind, compassionate and enjoyed their role caring for people”.

Inspectors care colleagues worked well together and were attentive to resident’s needs.

The inspection concluded: “People were protected from all forms of abuse and staff had the skills to meet people’s needs.

“People’s needs were identified and risks associated with their specific needs were assessed.

“The service was clean, and staff understood how to manage infection control risks. All necessary checks had been completed to ensure the safety of the environment and equipment. Staff were safely recruited and appropriately deployed to ensure people’s needs were promptly met.

“Medicines were managed safely.

“Staff were kind, compassionate and enjoyed their role caring for people. They told us they were well supported by the registered manager who listened to them and acted upon suggestions they made.

“People and their relatives were complimentary of the staff. People and relatives told us staff were “very patient and caring”. People had confidence in the management of the home and any concerns they raised had been acted upon.

“We observed staff were attentive to people’s needs and treated people with respect and dignity. People had access to group activities, as well as time alone with staff, jigsaw puzzles and separate lounges and a ‘bar’ in which people could welcome relatives and visitors.

“Activities had been organised by staff. In addition, external entertainers visited and sung for people. People told us they enjoyed the activities and “There is always something going on.”

Carrie Lewis, manager of Anchor’s Kimberley Court care home, said: “I’m really happy that the Care Quality Commission has given us a good rating.

“My team work incredibly hard to make sure Anchor’s Kimberley Court care home is a great place for older people to live.

“Getting this kind of praise from the care regulator is just the sort of recognition they deserve.

“We’re proud of the care we provide, the meals we make with fresh seasonal ingredients and the wide variety of meaningful activities our residents enjoy.

“We welcome such rigorous inspections and clear ratings so older people, and their families, can judge for themselves which homes are right for them and get the standard of care they deserve.”

Resident Frank Collier, aged 80, who has lived at Kimberley Court care home for three years, said: “I am very happy to hear this result, I love living at Kimberley Court and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

“The staff here are very good and look after everyone. They are champions.”
