ORGANISERS of Newquay Carnival are going the extra mile to ensure this year’s event is a success.

The much‑loved Newquay Lions Carnival Mile Race is being staged for the first time in 30 years on Saturday, July 4, at 5.55pm.

The event will start outside The Fort Inn in Fore Street and finish on the Barrowfields.

Every finisher will receive a medal, and there will be a perpetual trophy for the first male and first female athletes to cross the line.

Lion Phil Bunt said: “It was last run in the early 1990s when some amazing times were set by talented local runners but it’s not all about how fast you can do it.

“All abilities are welcome to enter and, with hundreds of people waiting for the carnival procession to pass, a marathon-like atmosphere of support is sure to spur on everyone who takes part.

“The route runs through the heart of Newquay and because this is the first event of its kind on this route for some time, entry numbers are limited and must be booked in advance.

“There will be no on‑the‑day entries.

“A huge thank‑you goes to the members of Newquay Road Runners for their enthusiasm and expertise in helping design the route and event logistics.

“All roads along the course will be closed to traffic. However, as this is a fast road race in a confined but safe environment, the event is open to adults only.

“You must be 18 or over on July, 4 2026, and proof of age may be requested at registration.”

All entry fees will go directly to the Newquay Lions Club Community Fund, supporting local good causes and helping to deliver future community events such as Newquay Carnival.
