RESIDENTS have reiterated calls to install double yellow lines along a main road in Newquay after a car collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle and rolled onto its side.
A male driver was released from his black vehicle following the road traffic accident on Henver Road on Wednesday, January 21 at about 1.25pm. The crew administered first aid before the man was taken to hospital by a family member.

Residents would like to see a double yellow line put in place as motorists park “daily” along the busy stretch, which they argue is a motoring hazard. They claim people who live in nearby apartments park there as there is only one parking space available for each household.
Mr Roberts said: “The crash was caused by the driver colliding into a car parked on the pavement. It was not reckless driving. If the vehicle was not parked there the accident wouldn’t have happened.
“I’ve lived near the road for the past 10 years and people always park there. Motorists have had to swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid the parked vehicles.
“I’ve asked the council to put yellow lines on this side of the road as it’s the main road into Newquay and residents park on the pavement daily.
“I see the same vehicle parking there day in and day out. There are less vehicles parked there during the day as they are out working.
“This accident is exactly the reason why people should not be able to park there. If there are double yellow lines the council can enforce it, hand out a ticket and stop people parking there.
“Residents who live in nearby apartments only have one parking space so it’s a parking issue. They will just have to park somewhere else.
“Thankfully on this occasion no one lost their lives but there needs to be common sense. During the summertime there are hundreds of thousands of vehicles passing through there
“Hopefully this road traffic collision might get the council’s attention, and some action is taken.
“I’m surprised there are not more accidents. There must be so many near misses.”
Tretherras Cornwall councillor Kevin Towill believes double yellow lines could be installed “quite quickly” as funding is available through the Mid Cornwall Metro scheme to make surrounding roads safer.
Cllr Towill said: “I have called for double yellow lines there as a local member.
“It looks like there will be some funding available from the Mid Cornwall Metro project to make the roads around the train station safer.
“Part of the scheme involves sorting out the traffic in the surrounding area. Hopefully we could potentially solve this problem quite quickly.”
The road was closed in both directions whilst emergency services were at the scene.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “On receipt of the call fire control mobilised two appliances from Newquay and the Rescue Tender from Tolvaddon were mobilised.
“The incident involved one vehicle on its side with one male casualty released from the vehicle by firefighters. The crew then administered First Aid until the casualty was taken to hospital by a family member. The crew made the scene safe and handed it over to the police.”
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and an unoccupied parked vehicle on Henver Road.
“As a result of the collision, the car overturned. Emergency services attended the scene and local road closures were put in place.
“The fire service helped get the driver out of the car. Paramedics assessed the driver, but any injuries are not thought to be serious.”
