A BY-ELECTION is being held for the Newquay Porth and Tretherras electoral division following the death of Kevin Towill.

Residents will be going to the polls on Thursday, April 23, if the election is called.

Nomination papers can only be submitted in person by Wednesday, March 25, no later than 4pm.

Applications to register to vote at the election closes at midnight on Tuesday, April 7.

Applications for postal votes must be submitted by Wednesday, April 8 at 5pm. Proxy vote applications close on Wednesday, April 15, at 5pm.

People from across the political spectrum have paid tribute to Mr Towill who passed away on Tuesday, February 10, aged 46.

Mr Towill, who represented Reform UK, was praised for always doing what was best for Newquay and Cornwall.
