INDIAN Queens Band will be celebrating its 170th anniversary with a special event.

The band will set off from the Indian Queens Victory Hall to Indian Queens Pit along with players from other bands including Bodmin, Camborne Brass, St Breward, St Dennis and St Newlyn East on Sunday, May 17 at 11.15am.

Entertainment will include contributions from Rhys the Night Church Pianist, Indian Queens’ training band and proceedings will finish with a performance from a massed band.

Councillor Dick Cole said: “The Band was founded in 1856 initially comprised of only five people.

“They undertook their first engagement at nearby Ruthvoes and as they only knew three tunes, played them over and over again.

“The band has been ever-present at the heart of our community over the past 170 years.”
