AN annual Christmas tradition is being served up in Newquay to give residents a festive treat.

The Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Community Lunch, which started in 2011, will be held at the Magnuson Sandy Lodge Hotel in Hilgrove Road on Friday, December 5 from 12pm.

The lunch is particularly welcomed by members of the community who may, otherwise, not have the opportunities to socialise over the festive period as readily as others.

Those attending can look forward to a sherry or juice on arrival, a two course traditional Christmas lunch with mince pies and clotted cream, a glass of wine or soft drink with the meal, a free prize bingo session, tombola, raffle and great entertainment from singer Paula Marcelis.

A Lions spokesperson said: “It’s not an ‘old people’s lunch’ but an opportunity afforded to anyone in the community who feels this is something that can bring some cheer into the lives of themselves, friends and families at an affordable cost due to the subsidies and support of Towan Blystra Lions Club and many others in the community.

Lion president Jon Collins added: “This is always a highlight of our year, and we know how much it is enjoyed by so many in our community.

“It always lifts our spirits running up to the last few weeks before Xmas Day and we are so grateful to everyone who makes this possible, especially everyone at The Sandy Lodge who happily host us year on year.

“Don’t delay if you are thinking of coming. These tickets normally sell out quite quickly.”

Tickets priced at £9 are limited in number and need to be booked in advance by either emailing Lion Lesley Baize at [email protected] or telephoning her on 0345 833 4981. Tickets will then be able to be collected from The Lanherne Pub in Ulalia Road on Saturday, November 8 between 2pm and 4pm or, if this is not possible, alternative arrangements may be able to be made.
