ARMED police swooped on a property in Newquay and arrested a man for a suspected firearms offence on Friday afternoon.

A man in his twenties was detained at an address in Higher Tower Road at around 1.35pm. He remains in police custody.

Armed police were joined by a number of other police officers and police dog handlers to carry out the operation.

A police cordon is in place at the scene while enquiries are ongoing.

Eyewitness Daniel Rabbitts said: “I saw an armed response team, with dog handlers make a few arrests.

“It looked like a dog was also taken away. I don’t know what it was all about.

“Police cars initially blocked the road but it was reopened within the hour. It was quite exciting for Newquay.”
