A MUSIC organisation in Newquay is on a mission to create more opportunities for young and emerging musicians across Cornwall

The Studios Music School, Shop and Recording Studios in Bank Street has launched a £5,000 fundraising campaign to upgrade its recording facilities.

The community-driven organisation, which has been educating and supporting Newquay musicians since 2016, has launched a gofundme titled Support grassroots music development in Cornwall to help fund the first phase of its studio upgrade.

The Studios plans to improve its recording facilities, acoustics, vocal recording capabilities and space to create a professional yet affordable and supportive space for the musicians to record, rehearse and kickstart their careers.

Nadine Finney, founder and musical director of The Studios, said: “Over 20 years ago, I took my first singing and dancing lessons in Australia and instantly fell in love with performing. That passion has shaped my entire life.

“Music has given me so much throughout my life, and I feel incredibly privileged to be able to share that passion with the next generation.

“Watching a nervous beginner play their first chord, seeing a young singer find their confidence, or watching a local musician perform something they’ve created themselves is what makes The Studios so special.

“But over the years, I’ve also seen just how difficult the journey can be for musicians trying to take their next step.

“Cornwall has an incredible amount of musical talent, but access to professional recording facilities and the support needed to develop as an artist can be difficult and expensive. We want to help change that.”

The Studios has taught hundreds of students and provides a home for musicians to learn, rehearse, record and perform. It also works with organisations supporting disadvantaged young people and runs its annual Giveback Concert, raising money for local school music departments.

The gofundme campaign represents phase one of a longer-term vision as The Studios aims to support local artists with development programmes and workshops that would include professional recording, mentoring, creative opportunities and industry guidance.

The team is appealing to the wider Cornwall community to help them take their first steps in this process and are grateful to the community for donating £1,000 to date toward its target.

The Studios have offered up a range of donor incentives to thank their generous supporters, which are aimed at connecting with fellow music-lovers including vouchers for rehearsal space and recording to Studios merch and store discounts.

Nadine said: “We see every day how music can build confidence, create friendships and give people a voice.

“Support doesn't have to mean making a financial donation. The Studios is also looking for musical equipment, industry support, business partnerships, publicity and social media shares that could help the campaign reach more people.

“We’re not just trying to raise money for a room full of equipment. We’re investing in a space that could help hundreds of local musicians over the years. Every donation, piece of equipment, introduction or share could help us create another opportunity for someone with a passion for music.”
