POLICE have decided to take no further action after armed officers swooped on a Newquay property on Friday (September 18).

A man in his twenties was arrested in relation to a suspected firearms offence after police officers attended an address in Higher Tower Road at around 1.35pm.

A police cordon was put in place at the time and dog handlers also attended the scene.

Eyewitness Daniel Rabbitts said: “I saw an armed response team, with dog handlers make an arrest. I don’t know what it was all about.

“Police cars initially blocked the road but it was reopened within the hour. It was quite exciting for Newquay.”

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson later confirmed: “Officers, including armed officers, attended an address in Higher Tower Road, Newquay around 1.35pm on Friday, September 18.

“A man in his 20s was arrested in relation to a suspected firearms offence.

“Following enquiries, it was decided that the man will face no further police action in relation to the incident.”
