A VACANCY exists for a councillor in the Moresk & Trehaverne Ward of Truro City Council, due to insufficient people putting themselves forward to stand for election in May.
The council currently has 23 councillors rather than the full complement of 24.
Town Clerk David Rodda said: “At its last meeting, the council had to decide whether it wanted to run with the vacancy or fill it via co-option. Councillors chose the latter option, so we are now advertising for interested parties.
“If more than one person puts their name in the hat, they will be invited to Council and given an opportunity to state why they wish to stand. The 23 will vote for the candidate they think is best suited to the role.”
Time commitment is estimated at the equivalent of a day a month. Full council holds 10 monthly evening meetings per annum (excluding August and December). Attendance is expected at as many as possible.
In addition, councillors are expected to serve on one or more of the standing committees – planning, finance, and general purposes and staffing. The planning committee meets every three weeks, and the others have 10 evening meetings per annum.
Councillors may also wish to get involved in working groups and sub committees such as the Nature Recovery Forum and the Truro Transport Strategy Group. Timing is linked to the availability of the membership, with some in the evening and others during the day.
Ad hoc civil events throughout the year include Remembrance Sunday and Mayor Making.
Those wishing to be considered should write to the Town Clerk and proper officer of Truro City Council, stating their interest, eligibility criteria and the reasons why they should be considered for this vacancy.
The closing date for the receipt of applications is Tuesday, June 24 2025. Visit www.truro.gov.uk
