SOME of the world’s best adaptive surfers are competing in Newquay today (Saturday).
The 2026 English Para Surfing Open is being staged at Fistral Beach, which will see competitors from France, Portugal and as far afield as Saudi Arabia taking part.
The competition will feature seven International Surfing Association (ISA) classified divisions alongside four open divisions, showcasing both elite para surfers and emerging talent.
Organisers said: “Athletes from across the globe will go head-to-head in what promises to be a spectacular showcase of surfing.
“And the forecast couldn’t be better. Saturday is currently looking stunning, with light to no wind and a clean two foot swell, set to provide perfect competition conditions.
“We’re expecting huge performances across all classified divisions, with some of the world’s best para surfers ready to put on a show. And our open divisions showcasing some of the best budding talent in the UK.
“This is one you won’t want to miss. We’d love to see spectators lining the beach, soaking up the atmosphere and experiencing the energy first hand. Para/Adaptive surfing is one of the most exciting disciplines in the sport, and the level of performance on display at Fistral this weekend will be nothing short of world class.
“Keep an eye on our social media channels for the latest updates and heat schedules.
“Era Adventures will be on hand throughout the event, so if you need assistance or first aid, please notify a lifeguard or contest official right away.”
