The South West Peninsula League premier west match between St Blazey and Bude at Blaise Park this afternoon was abandoned in the 65th minute after trouble broke out around the Bude dugout area.

Referee Murat Kaymaz brought proceedings to a controversial end after Bude’s joint managers, Josh Allen and Ben Potter, were both shown red cards for dissent.

The official apparently said one of his assistant referees did not feel safe to carry on running the line which took him past the Bude dugout.

The referee called the two captains, Olly Brokenshire and Billy Hopcroft, together before signalling that he was abandoning the game with St Blazey 1-0 ahead thanks to Jed Smale’s injury time goal at the end of the first half.

It is not yet clear whether the result will stand or the match will have to be rearranged.

In a short statement soon after the game, the league said: “The result will be pending any disciplinary action that is ruled to have caused the abandonment.”

Problems started on the hour when Bude striker Mason Tape was through on the left and appeared to be upended by St Blazey right back Will Tinsley, who had been booked in the first half.

The Bude bench were appealing for a foul and a second yellow for Tinsley but the referee, who had not made it into the attacking half of the pitch after a St Blazey corner had been cleared, gave nothing.

The linesman on the dugout side of the pitch alerted the referee about abuse he was being subject to, which led to the referee showing a yellow card to Allen.

Allen continued his comments and was duly shown a red card and shortly afterwards, Potter, who had been booked for dissent after the half-time whistle, also saw red, apparently for something he said.

It had been a fiery game from the start between third-placed St Blazey and fourth-placed Bude. Visiting midfield man Baga Mariko, who received five minutes of treatment on the pitch for a head injury after falling awkwardly in the 27th minute, was shown a yellow card seven minutes later for a foul on Liam Eddy.

Three minutes after that, Mariko went in late on Smale and after consulting a linesman close to the incident, the referee showed the Bude player a second yellow followed by a red.

In the melee which developed after the decision, Billy Hopcroft was sin binned, leaving Bude to see out most of the rest of the first half with nine players.
