NATIONAL LEAGUE TWO WEST
Lymm 7 Redruth 39
ANOTHER impressive first half performance set Redruth on the way to victory in Cheshire on Saturday.
The Reds made their longest trip of the season with six wins from six, and despite facing an artificial pitch and the lengthy journey, proved too strong.
Home fly-half Thomas Shard missed a second penalty for the Greens, and 10 minutes later they fell behind as fly-half Joe Cummins crossed for the second straight week. He missed the conversion.
Try-scoring machine Tom Cowan-Dickie added his 11th try of the season just before the half-hour with Cummins adding the extras, and a healthy lead was extended further two minutes before the break by inside-centre Connor Gilbert’s touchdown. Cummins made it two from three off the tee.
Redruth went further in front three minutes after the restart with a Cummins penalty, before Lymm got their sole score of the afternoon on 52 minutes through hooker James Pitcher which Shard converted.
The Cornishmen emptied their bench either side of the hour, which included debutant Aden Brassington coming on moments after fellow replacement Finn Wolstencroft, who had only been on the field for two minutes, powered over. Hall added the extras after Cummins left the field.
Both teams continued to utilise their squad in the latter stages, but in the final 10 minutes there was still time for Hall to add a penalty before he converted scrum-half Sam Bray’s try late on.
Redruth now enjoy a much-deserved week off before welcoming second-placed Hinckley on October 31.
