ST AUSTELL Rugby Club have announced Sam Parsons as their new head coach for the upcoming 2025-26 season, marking a fresh chapter for the Cornish club as they look to build on recent successes.
Parsons, who has been part of the coaching setup at St Austell for the past three years, steps up into the top job with the backing of an experienced and dynamic coaching team. He will be supported by backs coach Matt Shepherd, set-piece specialist Neil Bayliss, breakdown coach Rob Daniel and skills coach Chris Ashwin.
The new leadership group brings a blend of energy, technical expertise and proven track records at both club and community levels. Together, they aim to continue the club’s upward trajectory by raising playing standards, fostering strong team culture, and developing the next generation of Saints talent.
“I’m extremely excited for the next chapter in my rugby career,” said Parsons. “Having worked with this group for the past three years, I know just how much potential we have. As a coaching team, we’ve got a great balance of experience and passion, and I couldn’t be more proud to be named head coach for the 2025/26 season.
“We’re committed to challenging our players and each other to push the standards even higher. Our aim is clear – continuous improvement across all areas of the club.”
Club chairman Paul Hayes praised the coaching unit, highlighting the consistency and ambition that has helped transform the senior squad.
“We’re blessed to have such a talented group of coaches who have continuously driven up standards in training, fitness and playing across the senior squad to take the club to new heights,” said Hayes. “Matt Shepherd has been an inspiration on and off the pitch and is an incredible role model for any community rugby player. He has been one of the primary catalysts behind the progression we have made in recent seasons.”
