South West Peninsula League

Dobwalls 0 St Blazey 1

An 86th minute penalty from Andy Watkins was enough for title-chasing St Blazey to take three precious points at Lantoom Park on Friday night.

Dobwalls keeper Paul Thompson got a hand to Watkins’ spot kick but the ball ended in the net to end Blazey’s frustrations.

The penalty was awarded after Dobwalls centre half and captain Billy Westlake was adjudged to have tripped Luke Cloke, who had got the wrong side of the defender.

Blazey are now five points behind leaders Wendron United with four games in hand.

If they go on to win the title, the Green & Blacks will no doubt look back on a Friday night at Dobwalls as a key moment in their season.

They were made to work very hard for the win, even after Dobwalls were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half when substitute Vincent Harper-Innis, who had only been on the field for three minutes, was shown a straight red card for a two-footed challenge.

The first half had produced few clear-cut chances but St Blazey midfield man River Allen was twice denied a breakthrough goal by the woodwork.

In the second half Blazey stepped up the pressure but they found keeper Thompson in top form - until Watkins managed to squeeze his penalty past him.
