CARADON’S first team secured their first points in the West Hockey League Premier Division on Saturday with a dramatic 3-2 victory at Plymouth Lions.

The Devonians took an early lead before Ollie Dinnis produced an acrobatic finish to equalise from a penalty corner rebound.

The hosts restored their advantage before half-time, but back came the Yellows with Ben Pennington-Ridge diving to convert Tyler Walsh’s pass and level the score. Ben Hedley then struck the decisive goal in the final quarter following good work from Walsh.

Despite finishing with just nine players after a late flurry of cards, Caradon showed tremendous resilience to secure all three points.

The seconds suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Tavistock in Piran Division Two despite showing plenty of promise in spells throughout the match.

Caradon started brightly, creating early attacking opportunities, but Tavi gradually took control, scoring twice before half-time, including a well-worked penalty corner.

A much-improved second-half performance saw the Cornishmen move the ball well and create several chances. David Brice was unlucky in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, while efforts from Hannan Currah and Mike Parkinson were cleared off the line.

However, Tavistock added a third goal to seal a deserved victory. Despite the result, Caradon can take positives from their second-half performance, but will need to turn promising build-up play into goals.

The thirds hosted their Duchy counterparts at a sunny Lux Park in an entertaining and competitive encounter in Piran Division Three which somehow ended goalless.

Caradon produced some excellent, organised hockey, spreading play well and defending resolutely in an evenly-matched first half as their young midfield impressed with their energy and ability to win possession.

The second half opened up, with both sides creating chances, but home goalkeeper Alfie Brown produced an outstanding man-of-the-match performance to secure his side a point.
