LADIES’ SECTION
TUESDAY, September 16 saw the ladies compete in an 18-hole Stableford, but with the hidden twist of secret partners, drawn when the ladies returned to the clubhouse.
The winners with a combined score of 62 points were Debbie Cain and Susan Waters. Debbie also won the individual Stableford with 39 points. Carol Sparrow and Sue Sykes were second with a combined 59 points.
The nine-hole Stableford restricted the ladies to three clubs and a putter.
Diana Luxon won with a magnificent 20 points on countback from Rose Howe, four points clear of third-placed Bridie Jones.

SNOOKER
St Blazey and District Snooker League by Geoff Hawken
THE St Blazey and District Snooker League got up and running last Tuesday (September 23) with all three games in the Victory League ending 3-2.
Nathan Shaw got Mevagissey B off to a good start, beating Mark Ashton of Bethel, before Matt Green levelled things up against Dave Kendall.
Bethel responded as Garry Stephens knocked in a 38 break against Ben Rothwell to put his team ahead again, but Matty Rowe powered past Andy Peers for parity.
In the decider, Paul Baron proved too good for Nathan Shaw who was playing his second game of the night, slotting in a 35 break in the process.
Liam Jones won a re-spotted black ball frame against Matt Mills to get Bethel D off to a good start at promoted Mevagissey A, but Ben Prynn played well to beat Bob Stephens to even things up.
Jason Pascoe then took out Matt Chesterfield to put the visitors ahead again, before Geoff Hawken came from a long way back to beat Darren Powell to seal the win.
Mills beat Steve Benallack in his second game of the night to make it 3-2.
New-look Luxulyan (formally Bugle A) suffered defeat at Tregonissey A by the odd frame as Jason Cocks, Kev Harris and Geoff Merriman won for the home side, with Harrison Burdon and Andrew Best replying.
In the Rees Memorial League, last year’s wooden spoonists Tregonissey C got off to a flyer by beating Lerryn 4-1 with victories for Amanda Fleming, Darren Elliott, Mark Richards and Dave Tregale. Les Shakespeare replied.
Tregonissey B went to Bugle and picked up the Runabout Shield with a 4-1 win with James Holmes, Darren Roberts, Mark Haworth and Jowan Truman on target. Dave Rundle edged out Ryan Orchard for the home point.
Mevagissey C went 3-0 up at Bethel C as Rich Tamblin, Adrian Evans and Mark Ferguson all won.
However, the hosts responded well as Ben Stunell and Roger Smithson pulled the last two frames back.
Gorran Haven started with a home win thanks to as they took out Bethel B by the odd frame.
Lee McKinstry, Matt Fox and Steve Williams got the job done with Mike Haley and Craig Nicholls responding for the St Austell-based visitors.

Bude Pirate Run by David Sillifant
NEARLY 200 Cornish runners took part in the Bude Pirate Run on Sunday, September 21.
However, it was Bideford AAC’s Mark Jenkin that was the overall winner in a time of 51 minutes and 32 seconds, more than two minutes clear of Wadebridge Running Club’s Johnny Hesnan.
Jenkin’s club-mate Nick Lapham edged St Austell Running Club’s Bradley parsons in the race for third by just five seconds.
