CORNWALL AC’s Joshua Rowe was the winner of the St Agnes 5 Miler on Wednesday, August 20.

His time of 26 minutes and 23 seconds was 43 seconds clear of Sam Farmer (Hayle Runners) who was 20 seconds ahead of Rowe’s club-mate Brian Glynn.

Truro Running Club’s Anna Harrold was the fastest lady and sixth overall in 28:37, more than two minutes clear of Mile High’s Sarah Hoskin (30:51). Chloe Clarke’s 31:56 was enough for third.

LADIES’ SECTION

TUESDAY, August 12 saw the ladies hold their monthly Medal and The Alpha Cup (a 30+ handicap competition held over 16 holes.

First in the medal was Sandra Lloyd (nett 72), Katie Champion was second (nett 77) and third was Sue Hodge (nett 79) on countback from Sue Sykes.

The winner of the Alpha Cup was Rose Howe with 37 points, one ahead of Eileen Avery who took second on countback ahead of Kathryn Adams.

On Thursday, August 14, the senior ladies gathered to support senior lady captain, Lorna Parfitt on her Captain's Day which had a floral theme and attracted some very bright dresses.

The format was a Greensome played over 11 holes, the winners being Kathryn Adams and Pat Thom with a nett 22.

Sue Sykes and Judith Reseigh were second (nett 23), one clear of Sally Stacey and Jo Toms.

Sandra Lloyd and Anne Poole won Nearest the Pin in two on the second hole.

All received prizes of flowers and chocolates. Also, tea/coffee and cake were provided by Lorna on the return to the clubhouse.

On Tuesday, August 19, the ladies competed for The Handicap Cup.

The top four from the initial stage went through to a knockout so Sue Phillips’ brilliant nett 64) means she will play Katie Champion (74) and Sue Waters’ 72 means she will take on Sally Stacey (73).

In the nine-hole Stableford there were some exceptionally high scores. Anne Poole was first with a magnificent 28 points. Meg Platton took second on 24 points, two ahead of Gail Hicks on 22.

The ladies competed for the President’s Bowl on Tuesday, August 26.

The winner was Jan Barker with 39 points on countback from Susan Phillips. Debbie Cain’s 38 secured third.

In the nine-hole competition, Marilyn Start’s 18 was enough for victory on countback from Meg Platton.

THE Saints’ short trip down the A390 ended in a 6-1 defeat to the city club.

THE Kiddys – Ed and Suzanne – were the best mixed pair with a score of 38, while Steve Reed managed a ‘hole-in-one’ on the 16th, but it Shaun Channon and Steve Humphreys that ran out winners by two points.
