Tresidder's quadruple keeps Sticker at the summit

STICKER are sitting pretty at the top of the table – and nobody should be surprised.

Their 5-0 demolition of Wendron at Burngullow Park on Tuesday night – thanks in no small part to Evan Tresidder’s four goals – was their fifth successive win in all competitions.

And that is on the back of a six-match winning end to last season stretching back to early March.

This is no flash in the pan. Look at the statistics and you will see they’ve conceded only five goals in 10 games while scoring 29, and this was their fourth successive clean sheet.

Sticker were strong at the back last season but didn’t score enough goals – 35 in 28 games – so they’ve added some quality going forward and the policy is paying dividends.

Tresidder arrived earlier this month from Falmouth Town Reserves, scored a 12-minute first half hat-trick on his league debut at Millbrook on Saturday and followed it up with another first half treble against the Dron.

And just for good measure he rounded it all off with a ‘goal of the season’ contender – lobbing the keeper from wide on the right, 25 yards out. Confidence hey!

Connor Cooke got the other goal, an emphatic finish from 10 yards put on a plate for him by Josh Penrose after a mazy run along the right.

There might have been more goals for the home side. Wendron found it difficult to deal with the pace of Cam Bidgood, another quality summer signing, who will still be wondering how he ended the game without at least one goal.

Despite the margin of defeat, Wendron deserve credit. This young team passed the ball well along the ground, had one of the game’s outstanding players in midfield man Dominic Scoffin, and were unfortunate not to score a goal themselves.

I hope the Wendron coaching staff keep the faith because this set of players look good enough to turn things around.

Sticker’s confidence was immediately apparent on kick-off and it took them only 90 seconds to take the lead, Tresidder cutting in from the right to send a low left-foot drive into the far corner of the net.

An Eli Evans free-kick from wide on the left deceived keeper Ethan Fearn and struck a post while a rasping shot by Bidgood from 20 yards flew inches wide. All in the opening 12 minutes.

It was 2-0 in the 18th minute through a disputed penalty, scored by Tresidder after Cooke’s fierce shot was adjudged to have hit the arm of Marvellous Joseph. Quite how the young defender was supposed to get out of the way I’m not sure.

Fearn then produced two excellent saves to deny Bidgood before Tresidder completed his hat-trick three minutes before the break with an almost nonchalant finish.

Despite the scoreline, Sticker boss Dan Nancarrow revealed he had given out a rollicking in the dressing room because he didn’t feel his side were at their best.

But almost before he had time to settle in the dugout, Nancarrow saw Penrose’s excellent work along the right being converted by Cooke.

And the best was saved until last as Tresidder, out wide on the right, tried an audacious lob which floated over Fearn at the near post to nestle in the far corner.

Sticker go to Camelford on Saturday for what Nancarrow described as ‘a tough test against a good side’.

I’m sure the Camels will be feeling the same about Sticker.
