Lillywhites set for homecoming as Sticker look to stay top

LEADERS Sticker head to title hopefuls Camelford on Saturday a point clear of neighbours St Austell with a game in-hand.

The villagers – boosted by the brilliance of striker Evan Tresidder – have enjoyed a perfect start to the season with four wins from four in the league as well as advancing in the FA Vase following a 1-0 success at Stoke Gabriel and Torbay Police.

They head to a Camels side who have conceded seven goals without reply at Bude Town and then Callington Town, meaning Bobby Hopkinson’s men will be gunning for a response.

St Austell have picked up two serious injuries already this term in Kyle Marks and Rubin Wilson, but they still are unbeaten on 11 points from five games, all of which have been played away from Poltair.

The Lillywhites have finally got their ground ready following last year’s withdrawal from the Western League, and hopes are high for a large crowd and three points against winless Dobwalls who make the short trip down the A390 looking to turn encouraging performances into points.

Launceston are the only other side in the 17-team division yet to taste victory, and they welcome promoted Hayle who have started encouragingly despite a derby reversal at much-fancied Penzance on Tuesday.

Bude Town enjoyed a fine three days with wins over Camelford and Dobwalls and head to a rejuvenated Wadebridge Town who are gradually putting together a much more competitive squad under the returning Paul Rowe.

Rowe was absent for last Saturday’s 4-0 win over Launceston which was followed by a disappointing 1-0 reversal at Millbrook in midweek.

The Brook will hope to kick on following Josh Payn’s winner, but face a tough task against Callington who arrive off the back of their Wednesday night win over Camelford.

Cally look well equipped to be up in the top three at the very least, and despite losing at Falmouth Town Reserves last Saturday, still have three wins from four.

Holsworthy are another outfit in form. The Devonians cruised to victory at promoted St Mawgan last weekend and won at Launceston on Tuesday thanks to Jedd Peschke’s late header. They are back at Upcott Field for the first time since the opening day as they host a Mousehole side who have had a week to prepare after gaining their first points of the season at Wendron last Saturday.

The other fixture is at Bickland Park as Falmouth – also on nine points from a possible 12 – host a St Mawgan side who are aiming to halt a three-match losing streak.
